The construction industry is always hiring, and summer jobs tend to be opening up all over the state of Utah. If you are in need of a temporary construction job, All Trades can help. We work hard to arm our employees with the right information to begin their job and hopefully secure a long-term position with the firm. Here are our tips to help you succeed in your temporary construction job:
Show Up ON TIME!
We cannot stress this enough. We work with companies that expect you to be prompt. Being late simply shows an employer you do not care and they often do not allow you to work for the day. If you really want to succeed, show up 10-15 minutes early! Be the first one to arrive and the last one to leave to show the employer you are a hard worker and you are committed to your job.
Wear the Right Equipment
You must show up to work with the right equipment if you want to succeed. We can provide you with places to purchase the equipment you need to do your job effectively. Wearing the right work boots, gloves, and construction clothing will show an employer you are ready to work.
Put Your Phone Away
Here is another critical thing you can do when working any job, turn off your phone and lock it up! Do not bring your phone and check it constantly throughout the day. Employers want your undivided attention.
Bring Water, Sunscreen, and a Lunch
It helps to bring plenty of water, sunscreen, and a lunch to the job site. Employers do provide given breaks and lunch periods but they rarely allow employees to leave the job site for long stretches of time. Do yourself a favor and pack your lunch so you don’t need to leave for long stretches of time to eat lunch.
Be Grateful
When you are given a job, you need to be grateful. Always thank the employer for allowing you to work. If you are humble and grateful, there is a good chance the employer will continue to bring you back for additional work.
Maintain Focus
Listen carefully to the instructions you are given and make sure you are focused on your job. Repetitive tasks can become mundane at times, but do not allow yourself to zone out and lose focus or you could lose your job. Workplace accidents happen quickly and you need to always maintain focus to avoid being impaled by rebar or falling off a roof!
