Temp work is an excellent opportunity for people who need a job stat or who are caught in the constant issue facing many entry-level workers: needing experience to get a job, but needing a job to get experience. If you’ve been considering working as a temp, you may wonder how much, if any, experience you need in order to get hired on by a temporary staffing agency and to start getting work. There are a few variables involves with this. Here is what you need to know about previous experience and temp work.
Do You Need Experience For A Temp Agency To Hire You?
Many temp agencies work with entry-level candidates. Temporary work is often advertised as a great way to gain experience so that you can land a permanent position in the future, because it gives you the opportunity to learn on the job and expand your skill set. It’s a good way to try out different fields to set you up for success in the future.
However, some temp agencies do have more specialized work, which can necessitate previous experience. While some employers that work with temp agencies are fine with training you, others expect you to already know the skills necessary for the job you’ve been hired on to do. Most employers do prefer if workers have some familiarity with the industry, however, some are willing to train you.
Since temporary work is by its nature, temporary, employers often are not as concerned about finding the “perfect” candidate for the position, as they just need someone to get the job done. Think about the holidays and retail stores – it’s a great time to work as a temp and gain experience quickly because stores just want help asap.
Depending on the type of job you’re looking for and the temp agency you work with, you may or may not need some previous experience. In general, though, temp work is a great option for people looking to make connections, gain experience, and get their foot in the door so that they can land a permanent position later on in the future. If you’re looking to get experience, working as a temp is a fantastic way to do so.
